The modern Indian groom's wardrobe
Indian grooms in 2026 are expected to show up with 4 to 6 distinct looks across their wedding functions. Each function carries its own formality level and visual expectation - the casual ease of a Haldi kurta is as intentional as the grandeur of a ceremony sherwani. The challenge is not finding clothes. It is finding the right style language and building a cohesive wardrobe story across all functions so every look feels purposeful and every photograph tells the same visual story.
Most grooms navigate this alone, spending weekends overwhelmed in trial rooms without a clear brief or reference point. Srushtee's groom styling service changes that. Working from the bride's confirmed palette, the venue context, and the groom's personal style, she maps out every look before a single purchase is made - so you arrive at the store knowing exactly what you are looking for, in the right colour and at the right investment level.
With 120+ weddings styled and 50+ Bollywood projects in her portfolio, Srushtee brings editorial-quality thinking to groom wardrobes. The result is a groom who looks intentional, not dressed up - and cohesive with his partner in every frame.

What to wear to each function
Each wedding function has a distinct formality code. Srushtee builds a complete look for every event so you are never underdressed or overdressed at your own wedding.
Haldi / Mehendi
Casual kurta-pyjama in light colours - yellow, white, ivory or pastel. Relaxed silhouette that moves comfortably and photographs warmly in daylight. This is the function where comfort and ease take priority over ceremony.
Sangeet
Indo-western bandhgala or structured jacket. Semi-formal and expressive in colour. This is the function where personality comes forward - bolder tones, interesting textures, and a look that photographs beautifully under event lighting.
Wedding Ceremony
Sherwani (traditional) or richly embroidered kurta-dhoti. The most formal and culturally significant look. Heavy embroidery, considered colour coordination with the bride, and complete accessory styling - safa or pagdi, mojri, and dupatta. Every detail matters here.
Reception
Bandhgala suit or Western suit. Contemporary, sharp and polished. The reception gives grooms the most latitude - a well-cut bandhgala in a jewel tone or a classic charcoal suit both work, depending on the venue aesthetic and personal taste.
Groom traditions across India
India's wedding traditions are deeply regional. Srushtee respects and works within each tradition while ensuring the look is refined, comfortable, and camera-ready.
Marathi Groom
Dhoti-kurta, pheta (pagdi), uparane. White and yellow are ceremonially significant. Sourced from Pune's traditional weavers and ethnic wear specialists.
Punjabi Groom
Sherwani with turban - heavy embroidery, jewel tones (burgundy, navy, royal blue). Turbans are styled to complement the sherwani colour and the bride's lehenga.
South Indian Groom
Silk dhoti (veshti), angavastram, traditional gold jewellery. Fabric quality and drape precision are paramount. Understated elegance defines the look.
Rajasthani Groom
Safa (turban), heavy embellishment in rich reds and golds. Rajasthani groom looks often feature mirror work, gota patti and layered jewellery pieces that command attention.
Bengali Groom
Dhoti-kurta in white and red, topor (traditional conical headwear), and chandan tilak. Lightweight fabrics suited to summer ceremonies. Refined and cultural in every detail.
Gujarati Groom
Kediyum (traditional top), bandhani textiles, bright colours and mirror work. Turban styling is important. Gujarati groom fashion is celebratory and joyful in its palette.

Virtual groom styling - how it works
Distance is no barrier to a well-styled groom. Srushtee runs complete virtual groom styling sessions over video call for clients across India. The process begins with a detailed brief - every function, venue, and the bride's confirmed outfit palette are mapped out before a single recommendation is made.
Moodboards are shared via WhatsApp for each function's look direction. Where fabric swatches or trial photos are needed, grooms photograph options in natural light and send them over for real-time colour and fit feedback. Srushtee provides city-specific store shortlists - from Manyavar and Mohey for accessible budgets to designer boutiques in each city for premium wardrobes.
Colour coordination with the bride is handled through palette confirmation per function. Once the bride's look is locked in, the groom's palette is built around it - ensuring the couple looks photographically cohesive at every event, even when the styling consultation happens entirely remotely.
