Step 1

Events & Wedding Timeline

List every function so your stylist can plan looks for each one.

Write down all wedding functions with dates (Haldi, Mehendi, Sangeet, Wedding, Reception, Engagement, Cocktail, etc.)
Note the venue type for each function (indoor AC hall, outdoor garden, heritage property, beach, etc.)
Note day vs. evening timing — daylight calls for different colours and fabrics than evening
Mark which events involve heavy dancing — fabric weight and silhouette must allow movement
Note region/culture of wedding (Maharashtrian, Punjabi, South Indian, Bengali, etc.) — affects outfit requirements
Confirm how many outfit changes per day are realistic given venue proximity and timing
Identify any family dress code requirements (colour themes, traditional attire mandates)

Step 2

Outfit & Styling Budget

Being clear on budget lets your stylist work within it — not surprise you with it.

Set a total outfit budget across all events (include lehenga, sarees, accessories, groom)
Allocate budget per event — Wedding > Reception > Sangeet > Mehendi > Haldi is typical priority order
Decide on Buy vs. Rent vs. Borrow for each function (renting saves significantly for Haldi/Mehendi)
Set a separate accessories budget (jewellery, clutch, footwear, dupattas)
Reserve 10–15% as a contingency buffer for alterations, last-minute additions, duplication
Factor in groom styling — often overlooked until the last month
Note whether family styling (parents, siblings) is in the same budget or separate

Step 3

Your Style Profile

Your stylist will ask these on your first call — having answers ready saves time.

Know your skin undertone (warm, cool, or neutral) — affects which colours photograph best on you
Know your body type (Pear, Hourglass, Rectangle, Apple, Inverted Triangle) — or let your stylist assess
Identify fabrics you're comfortable in (heavy silks vs. lighter georgettes, structured vs. flowy)
Note any colours you love / absolutely won't wear
Save 10–15 reference images on Pinterest or Instagram that represent your wedding aesthetic
Note your height and shoe preference (heels, flats, juttis) — affects lehenga length and silhouette

Step 4

Jewellery & Accessories

Jewellery makes or breaks a bridal look. Plan it event by event.

List jewellery sets you already own that could be worn at specific events
Decide: Gold, Polki, Kundan, Diamond, or Oxidised — per event aesthetic
Research jewellery rental options for events where heavy sets aren't practical (Haldi, Mehendi)
Plan footwear for each event — confirm heel height before lehenga length is finalised
Source matching clutches/potlis — often left to the last week
Plan dupattas — count, colour, placement style per event
Have safety pins, double-sided tape, and needle-thread kit on wedding day

Step 5

Groom & Family Coordination

Cohesive family looks photograph beautifully. Plan early.

Confirm groom's outfit for each event — sherwani, bandhgala, suit, or Indo-western per function
Ensure bride and groom colours coordinate — they don't need to match, but must complement
Set a colour palette for family per event (e.g., pastels for Haldi, jewel tones for Sangeet)
Share the family palette with all family members at least 3 months before
Confirm mother of the bride / mother of the groom looks — often the trickiest to coordinate
Brief bridesmaids and close friends on dress code (colour, silhouette, fabric type)

Step 6

Vendor Coordination

Your stylist, MUA, and photographer need to be on the same page.

Share outfit colour and fabric with your MUA before the trial — makeup must complement, not clash
Share hairstyle references based on your outfit (open hair vs. updo affects dupatta and jewellery placement)
Brief your photographer on your outfit colours — helps them choose backdrop and lighting
Confirm getting-ready timeline with stylist, MUA, and photographer so everyone arrives in order
Ask your stylist to do a trial run with the main wedding look — ideally 4–6 weeks before

Step 7

Before Your Stylist Consultation

Come prepared and your first session will be incredibly productive.

Have your complete event list with dates ready (Steps 1–6 above)
Have a Pinterest board or Instagram saved folder with 10–20 reference images
Know your total styling budget — your stylist works best with a clear number
Have a clear photo of yourself in good lighting so your stylist can assess skin tone and proportions
List 3 outfits you love and why — and 3 you'd never wear and why
Know if you want traditional, contemporary, or fusion aesthetic for each event
Have your Mehendi and Haldi ceremony details clear — outdoors vs. indoors affects everything
