What to Prepare Before Your First Wardrobe Consultation

A little preparation turns a good first session into a genuinely useful one. Here's exactly what to gather before you sit down with a stylist.

Before your first wardrobe consultation, prepare four things: honest photos of your current wardrobe, 2-3 reference outfits or images you like, your upcoming event calendar, and a realistic budget range. Walking in with these ready means your stylist spends the session working, not just gathering basic information.

1. Photos of Your Current Wardrobe

Take honest photos of your closet - not a curated selection, the whole thing, including the pieces you never wear. A stylist needs to see what you actually own to know what's worth keeping, what needs replacing, and where the real gaps are.

2. Reference Outfits or Images

Gather 2-3 outfits or photos of a look you genuinely like - not an aspirational Pinterest board of styles that don't fit your life, but things you'd realistically wear. These help a stylist understand your taste faster than any verbal description.

3. Your Event Calendar

List any upcoming occasions - weddings, work events, travel, festivals - with approximate dates. This shapes what gets prioritised first and whether a capsule wardrobe or occasion-specific pieces make more sense for your immediate needs.

Pro Tip

For a wedding, bring the full function list (mehendi, haldi, sangeet, ceremony, reception) with dates - this is the single biggest factor in how a bridal engagement gets scoped.

4. A Realistic Budget Range

You don't need an exact figure, but a range helps a stylist recommend pieces and packages that actually fit your situation, instead of wasting the session on options outside your comfort zone.

Bring This So Your Stylist Can
Full wardrobe photos, unedited Identify what to keep, replace, or build around
2-3 realistic reference looks Understand your taste quickly, without guesswork
Event calendar with dates Prioritise what needs to be ready first
A budget range Recommend packages and pieces that actually fit
